Data portability project, which is gaining momemtum every passing day, will solve the social graph aggregation problem in not too distant future. While the jury is still out on the real value social networks bring, I do believe they have much more potential than email 2.0. Business model innovations such as babajobs are just beginning to happen. Killer apps are still being concieved/ designed by valley minds and chai programmers.

but in my opinion, social portals are not a whole lot more than email 2.0. only difference is you are going into m:m broadcast-subscribe model as opposed to a 1:1 send-receive model. this site is probably going into social angle to mimic the real world model of asking the neighbor for maid referrals – but two flaws with it – asking your neighbor is far easier, and efficiency of a social network requires critical mass to enable the long-tail of connections. aggregation of social graph is a closed opportunity for the near future.

But who wants to join yet another social network just to use their service? They must figure out a way to tap into people’s social graphs at mainstream networks – orkut and facebook. I don’t see any reason why that can’t be done.
