BOP = Bottom Of Pyramid

Recently found out that they have done an Orkut app . Very nice! They also provide a very innovative mobile access to their portal - one of the best you can fing amongst current genre of Indian portals.

Data portability project, which is gaining momemtum every passing day, will solve the social graph aggregation problem in not too distant future. While the jury is still out on the real value social networks bring, I do believe they have much more potential than email 2.0. Business model innovations such as babajobs are just beginning to happen. Killer apps are still being concieved/ designed by valley minds and chai programmers.

you lost me on 'bop', but i get your point. interestingly opensocial makes the social graph portable, so basically they sunk money into this project.

but in my opinion, social portals are not a whole lot more than email 2.0. only difference is you are going into m:m broadcast-subscribe model as opposed to a 1:1 send-receive model. this site is probably going into social angle to mimic the real world model of asking the neighbor for maid referrals - but two flaws with it - asking your neighbor is far easier, and efficiency of a social network requires critical mass to enable the long-tail of connections. aggregation of social graph is a closed opportunity for the near future.

back to this site.. with only 18M or so real internet users, the site's primary reliance on web access to generate inventory of service providers is going to hit a brick wall, if it hasn't already.

I find their business model very interesting. They are addressing a real market need and in the process helping BOP crowd improve their plight. Very innovative and huge potential. You can imagine someday most local lead gen businesses will follow similar model.

But who wants to join yet another social network just to use their service? They must figure out a way to tap into people's social graphs at mainstream networks - orkut and facebook. I don't see any reason why that can't be done.
