observation from a shopping trip to Food Word in Bangalore (Nanjappa Circle)

yoghurt/curd/dahi : most yoghurts are not as think and creamy. if you are used to the trader job’s cream-top, you would be pretty much dead in the water. my boys were majorly in to curd-rice (to the point of rejecting all other food), and that totally reversed after coming to bangalore. they hate it now, and we are constantly trying to figure out where we could get the creamiest culture.
portions: are thankfully small enough. you don’t find the gallonfuls of anything. the half-liter is pretty much the biggest you can get. and you don’t have to worry about running out, because the neighborhood grocer is just a phone call away.
fruit Juices : they are much sweeter, and have more variety of fruits (other than the standard watery guava, orange, banana, strawberry you find in safeway or albertsons) but there is a catch! every can i saw has added sugar. a-ha (george castanza style).
plastic : everything comes in plastic. paper bags are non-existent. in some cases, the bags are so flimsy, they are a hazard to kids and often don’t hold up even until you get home. my wife carries a tote bag – saves the trouble, saves the planet.
bread: buy bread from ‘bakery’ shops. very delicious and fresh – but unfortunately they don’t label them so i wouldn’t know how they are so good. breads from the super markets are stale, stiff and pretty much lousy.
