stumbled upon (not that StumpleUpon) what seems to be a bucket test of the new Yahoo! Search interface over the weekend, while doing random searching about things.
Yahoo! Search and Google Search user interfaces have been identical for years (you know who copied whom
) and neither has been willing to adapt the UI to changing web user expectations. why would they, and who would dare to rock the boat? the familiar refrain was that the two interfaces looked similar due to ‘evolutionary convergence’ mantra. can’t argue with that.
but it appears like that one of the first sacred cows to get the boot is that mantra of ‘evolutionary convergence’ under jerry yang. the UI looks a bit fresher with color gradients, the logo is de-emphasized (to the right), and adds a clean way to expand the keywords into various related topical dimensions. looks good!
